Requirement overview

Part of the associated gas from the lube unit is currently flared, and furnace exhaust heat is released to the environment without recovery. This call seeks a package that turns both waste streams into energy the unit itself can use.

Background and rationale

Last year's energy audit found that around 9% of the unit's input energy is lost through the flare and the stack. Cutting that figure delivers a direct financial return and also covers the client's environmental commitments.

Project objectives

  • Cut gas sent to the flare to less than a third of the current volume
  • Recover stack heat at better than 65% efficiency
  • Payback period under three years
  • Reduce the unit's greenhouse-gas emissions

Scope of work

  • Energy audit and field measurement of the waste streams
  • Design the flare-gas collection and compression system
  • Design and build the stack heat-recovery exchanger
  • Installation, commissioning and performance handover

Expected deliverables

  • Energy-audit report backed by measured data
  • Flare-gas recovery system installed and commissioned
  • Heat-recovery unit tied into the internal steam network
  • Savings-verification report after six months of operation

Applicant requirements

  • Experience delivering energy-recovery projects in process industries
  • Able to supply rotating equipment and heat exchangers
  • Performance guarantee tied to realised savings
  • Delivery team holding valid HSE certification

Evaluation criteria

  • Guaranteed savings35%
  • Price and payback period30%
  • Comparable delivery record20%
  • Maintenance and support plan15%
